work!

some scribbles i've been doing the past evening
the  3 top is for tomorrows lesson advertising illustration, where we are advertising a poster for hokkaido
the bottom idea was going to have  lots of different japanese stuff on it, but i came to halt and changed to season. the bear at the top starts with spring blossoms in the head and moves to a mountains with fields of flowers and sunflowers in the foreground with the rising sun beams behind the mountain then finishing with a japanese maple tree that changes form green summer to rich red autumn. not sure whether to redesign to include winter

The next one is my design for the christmas card competition back at plymouth, going to scan it in tomorrow and have a play.

It snowed again today on the way home, its was awesome! And some kids stared at me, my caucasian-ness must startled them. Today I finally finished my wax pendant for casting, then spent the other half of the lesson  doodling as i couldn't do anything else. The teacher is somewhat crazy talking about nuclear weapons and telling me about how he thought america had a weapon that causes earthquakes. A bit of a conspiracy! Then dotting in the afternoon, on week 3 of the shell and working at what seems to be a good pace.
Yesterday I finished the painting for original illustration, well maybe, and perspective thrills in the afternoon

Otaru

Today I went outside Sapporo to a little harbour town called Otaru
The venice of japan, apparently, i'm thinking more the cornwall of japan
There were lots of glass blowing houses and shops, and the town was very musical. Lots of music boxes and town clocks with special features, one of them produced steam on the hour.
This is the old train line

It was actually sunny, well for the morning at least

I have overspent today! used my card to get some totoro goods in a shop with a floor dedicated to Ghibli <3 Brought a blanket, photo frame, and some little keyrings plushes

In one of the music box shops was a little display of the time line of music boxes!

Bit of Hello Kitty

Some weird images

Tea ceremony

I pretended to drink my green tea today at the tea ceremony, it was green and frothy and smelled weird.
It was short and sweet the ceremony itself, i thought it would be much longer and intricate. I got to try some sweets though.
A buddist monk showed us round the rest of the  temple, it was very cold with no shoes on but the interior design is pleasing.

We then popped over to Hokkaido shrine and had a look round. I bought a fortune (if thats possible) (like fortune cookies but without the cookie) and got excellent luck. There were also some children there for a ceremony. ages 3 and 5 are important in japan. They were really cute dressed in there little kimonos!
Then i headed back to college for the afternoon.

Yesterday I was still working on my wax in silver accessories, and dots in the afternoon. its quite therapeutic doing all the dots for a shell.
Monday I actually enjoyed or a tleast didn't get bored during perspective class and did painting either side of that
And Sunday I went shopping for some extra layers.

Hokkaido historical village and museum

Its the weekend so naturally after being sunny all week it spontaneously decided to rain all day
I went to the historical village of hokkaido, which was an open air museum of donated houses.  This is somewhat unusual, as in england we keep the historical houses where they are and build a museum around it, here they seem to transport them about.
you got to go inside the building and walk around some rooms, but you have to keep taking your shoes off

There was also a historical museum separate from the village.
Mammoth!

Not a great deal to say, silver accessories on tuesday morning with a teacher that vanishes every lesson for half of it, hopefully i'm finished with the wax and can start casting or whatever next week. Then we started work on a dot drawing a shell, i got quite into that, its a four week project though! Today I had a presentation about my moving house image. Had to learn 10 sentences in japanese
